Intermediate filaments in the inner ear of normal and experimentally damaged guinea pigs.

چکیده
The hypothesis that proteins known to occur in glial cells in the central nervous system may be present in inner-ear supporting cells was investigated. Immunocytochemical techniques were used to look for the existence of two classes of intermediate filaments, vimentin and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), in cellular elements of the inner-ear epithelium in normal and experimentally damaged guinea-pig cochleas. Vimentin is present in two types of supporting cells in the normal organ of Corti: Deiters' cells and inner pillar cells. Differences in intensity and distribution of vimentin immunostaining are observed across the three rows of Deiters' cells. GFAP immunoreactivity was not detected in any supporting-cell type in the organ. Cochlear hair cells were not labeled for either GFAP or vimentin. Following hair-cell destruction by exposure to noise or the administration of aminoglycosides, GFAP and vimentin are not present in phalangeal scars replacing lost hair cells.

Effect of substitute milk on growth and breeding rates of hysterectomy derived guinea pigs neonates
In this study, considering the normal ingredients in guinea pig's milk, by using cow milk, mixture of vitamins and minerals, a milk substitute was prepared and sterilized by autoclaving and filtration methods. In food analysis of produced milk, the important substances values, such as protein, fat and ash, were suitable. Milk substitute was fed to four groups of newborn's guinea pigs that were ...

Objective(s): To study the c-Kit expression in the gallbladder of cholesterol lithogenic guinea pig model and the effect of Artemisia capillaris Thunb on interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs). Materials and Methods:A total of 45 guinea pigs were randomly assigned into three groups: the control group (guinea pigs fed a standard diet, normal group); the model group (guinea pigs fed a cholesterol gal...

Introduction: In the present study, the prophylactic effect of vitamin C, as a potent anti-oxidant, on tracheal responsiveness to methacholine and ovalbumin, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid white blood cell (WBC) count and differential count, and also lung pathology in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) -guinea pigs (cigarette exposed guinea pigs) were examined. In addition, the relax...
متن کاملA novel inner ear monitoring system for evaluating ototoxicity of gentamicin eardrops in guinea pigs.
OBJECTIVE/HYPOTHESIS Although most studies have identified damage in the cochlea and semicircular canals as the primary sites of aminoglycoside toxicity, little attention has been devoted to the toxic effects on the otolithic organs. This study aimed to assess the toxic effect of gentamicin eardrops on the inner ear end organs via a novel inner ear monitoring system combined with morphological ...
